I picked up photography as young teenager. I was greatly influenced by the movie ‘The Last Waltz’, by Martin Scorcese; in particular by a shot in the movie of Levon Helm on drums. I was moved by the colour, movement, passion, composition and lighting that were revealed in that photo. I was in awe. That shot inspires me to this day.

In photography school I was inspired by photography master Eugene Smith, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Yousef Karsh and Philipp Halsman. Style and grace, truth and honesty, quality and storytelling are the qualities I strive for in all my images.

For me, the key to a good portrait is about being prepared, which involves understanding the subject’s expectations, history and style. This takes me on a focused creative tangent that results in a unique and dynamic look aligned with the subject’s aspirations.  Art and photographic history combined with today’s trends are where I go to find the answers.

Having your picture taken can be very cathartic. Let me help you through the process.
